Danny Marks with Dala at 2016 Riverdale Share concert -COURTESY

\ TO EAST \

Murray McLauchlan, Danny Marks, Kim Stockwood and Julian Taylor are just some of the headliners who will perform at this afternoon’s Riverdale Share Concert at the Danforth Music Hall in celebration of its 25th Anniversary, 147 Danforth Avenue.

This year’s concert, which starts at 2 (doors at 2:30), will feature 20 performances in all. The full slate also includes Washboard Hank, Mia and John Sheard, Desna Children’s Dance Company, with emceeing by Mike Tanner, Music Sector Development Officer and front man for the Circumstantialists band.

Many of the artists will be backed by an all-star Riverdale Share Band house troupe of eclectic talents that includes three guitarists, three violinists, three horn players, three keyboardists and two drummers.  It’s comprised of Tom Leighton, Steve Briggs, Russ Boswell, Wendell Ferguson, Danny Greenspoon, Patrick Hornsby, Bruce Moffett, John Adames, Kevin Turcotte, Scott Marshall, Gord Meyers, Anne Lindsay, Aaron Dell and Jonathan Marks.

Among the stage attractions are Masini McDermott, Micah Barnes, Tim Bovaconti; Me & Her, Mia Sheard, Nicola Adilman, David Gale, Theresa Nova, Randy Vancourt, Fade Awaays, Torrent Productions theatre group, Frankland Junior Choir, Densa School of Ukranian Dance, Bain & Bernard comedians and Spraoi.

Longtime participant Tabby Johnson was supposed to take part again but had a scheduling conflict, however will return next year, organizers say. But local politicians representing diverse affiliations, such as local MP Julie Dabrusin, MPP Peter Tabuns, Councillor Mary Fragedakis and Mayor John Tory will also likely take part again and help the big room’s audience sing a couple of Christmas tunes.

Speaking on why he has been involved with The Riverdale Share Concert on several occasions, well-known Canadian singer and songwriter Murray McLauchlan stated in a press release: “To help families in need when they are most in need is not just an obligation but an honour.”

Held every December, The Riverdale Share Concert is a fun-filled, diverse holiday celebration for the entire family. Over the years over $250,000 has been raised from the concert to support east-end, non-profit organization such as the Blake Boultlbee Youth Outreach Service (BBYOS), East York Foundation Seniors Christmas Dinner, Kennedy House Shelter, Ralph Thornton Community Centre and the South Riverdale Child Parent Centre to name a few.

Support from many local organizations and companies, such as the new title sponsor, Meridian Credit Union and long-time supporter Big Carrot as well as Canadian Tire helps to cover show production costs and means 100% of ticket sales revenues are donated to local community programs. This year’s goal is to raise over $50,000 and truckloads of food for families in crisis in the community in one afternoon.

Admission to the Concert is $25.00 at the door plus a non-perishable food item,

More information on the 100 per cent volunteer-run Riverdale Share Concert, co-proudced with the Ralph Thornton Community Organization, is available at riverdaleshare.com, @RiverdaleShare and Facebook.com/RiverdaleShare.
