A taste of Sin City coming to Linsmore Tavern tonight | TorontoMoon.ca 150807Fr Shows for Friday, August 07, 2021

\ TO EAST \

It’s been about seven years now since I first heard the lively vintage Pop Rock/Tex Mex band Sin City Boys at a now defunct club in the east end of Toronto.

That night, attending subsequent shows and listening many times to their wonderful album Los Muchachos De Pecado (the name of the band in Mexican Spanish) turned me into a fan pretty quickly and I’m certainly not alone in that respect.

Every time I’ve seen them perform the rooms have been packed, whether at mid-sized rooms like Linsmore Tavern or Eton House of around 120-150 capacity or in tiny nooks like Graffiti’s in Kensington Market where they normally perform a Saturday matinée once a month.

Not only do they habitually draw a large crowd of faithful fans but these people dance when this group is on stage –and it’s easy to understand why. With a blend of Tex Mex originals and lively vintage Pop covers, this group, fronted by ace guitarist Kevin Jollimore, is the bomb! It’s just impossible to sit still when they are on stage.

You might think they’d have their work cut out for them in getting a good turnout for their show tonight (9:30, $5 cover) at Linsmore, located at 1298 Danforth a few steps from Greenwood subway, since not far away to the west Danforth Ave. between Donlands Ave. and Broadview will be teeming with live music, food and various forms of frolic as the Taste of The Danforth festival gets underway, featuring acts like the Julian Taylor Band (performing 10-11 on the main stage at Broadview).

But, as I reported last year, when I arranged for them to play the Linsmore for the first time last summer (as a last-minute fill-in on a long weekend, with a lot of other things going on) they totally impressed the club manager with both their performance and the audience turnout –he described it unconditionally as “a home run!”

As for those attending Taste of The Danforth: now you know where to head to for the after-party when proceedings wrap up at 11!
