\ STREETSVILLE \

When Amanda Rose and Josh Gordon bring their Amanda Rose Band to the Franklin House in Streetsville tonight, you couldn’t blame them, really, if on the way to the club at 263 Queen St. South they have a bit of a chortle as they pass the now closed Cock & Pheasant bar nearby.

The room, run by incompetent management that had pissed off many musicians (as well as patrons judging by various disgruntled reviews on their former Facebook page) closed last week, according to an article posted on a Mississauga entertainment website yesterday.

Although they weren’t named at the time, it was Amanda and Josh to whom I was referring when, on March 19, I wrote a scathing piece explaining why TorontoMoon.ca would no longer carry listings for the joint, which had ripped them off a couple of weeks previously by not paying them what had been agreed after the group had completed a gig there.

Relying on the bands to provide customers and not even bothering to post entertainment listings to a website or Facebook, the club seemed to think they could get the entertainment providers to make up for their own shortcomings.  Other area musicians had also reported having sour dealings with the room.

The timing for learning the news of the closing couldn’t have been better for the members of the band, since former C&P customers are likely to be looking to other nearby watering holes that have live music.  To quote Gordon on the band’s Facebook page: “Karma’s a bitch.”

The Amanda Rose Band show at Franklin House, which features sultry and versatile singer Rose on a wide range of Rock, Pop and Blues favourites along with Gordon doing his inventive and tasty thing on guitars, kicks off at 9:30 and there’s no cover.
