It appears that the Saturday 3:30-6:30 matinées at The Loaded Dog in Scarborough being put on by Jim Cornell’s new band, The Loaded Blues, are starting to attract some fans.  For not only has this event now become an established part of the club’s roster, there’s also a budget to bring in some pretty talented special guests.

It’s certainly not surprising that Cornell’s new group would draw interest from the sports-wings-and-dancing favouring crowd that populates the room at 1921 Lawrence Ave. E. near Warden, because he has demonstrated consistently over the past three years that he always puts on a solid show there. His Still Sunday band has been a regular feature there and usually gets the dance floor packed with a mix of Rock and Blues-Rock tunes that goes beyond the usual bar band set list, plus includes some impressive Cornell originals.

Now the new Loaded Blues outfit, which features Earl Johnson of MOXY fame on second guitar, is taking things to another level musically Saturday afternoons –and augmenting that with a guest list that includes talents such as Mena Hardy and Cindy Jameison both appearing tomorrow; singer Dee Flat confirmed for March 7; and Blues guitar master Frank Cosentino also in the cards.

Not that this group really needs special guests, with both Cornell and Johnson sharing licks, fills, riffs and rhythm duties.  And tonight they’ll demonstrate what they can do over a full show as they’re the showcase on the club’s well-appointed, raised stage starting at 9:30.

There’s no cover and the food, service and prices are all pretty decent here, plus there’s lots of free parking.
