It’s been a year now since family, friends and band mates of the late Bruce Adamson heard the shocking news that the Rock/Pop guitarist had died suddenly on December 15 of 2015 and for many the pain of losing him has not eased much in that time.

While no cause of death was publicly revealed, he had undergone heart surgery earlier in the year, although several friends said after the news was spread that he had seemed robust and been “back in the groove” performing with his current band, The Crown Jewels, as well as regularly at the Monday open stage at Dora Keogh.

He was a very much in-demand backing player for many of the regular participants at the weekly gatherings in the club at 141 Danforth Ave. and many of those musicians expressed disbelief and dismay at his untimely demise.

The host of the jam, Julian Taylor, in whose indie band, Staggered Crossing, Adamson played guitar during for five years during its 1997-2001 heyday, held a special edition of the event a year ago to honour his departed comrade, and tonight’s gathering will likewise be dedicated to his memory, he says.

“Many of us who knew Bruce well and played with him frequently are getting together to remember him by telling stories and playing songs,” Julian said about this evening’s 8:30 – 12 Raise A Glass to Bruce gathering.

“There’s been a huge gap since he left us and we want to come together to be close to one another and comfort each other.  He would have wanted it that way.”

Adamson will be among those included in Toronto Moon’s forthcoming Musical Legacies Online Museum on the lifeprintmemories.com website once enough support has been garnered to launch that project.
