Albert Lee -PROMO

\ TO WEST \

Love is in the air (you can find it between the snowflakes) as Valentines Day nears and for those whose passion is Country and early Rockabilly, their hearts will surely swell when they learn that an icon of the genre, Albert Lee, will still be doing two Toronto shows originally scheduled for Hugh’s Room.

(Hugh’s, btw, continues to limp towards re-opening. A gofundme.com campaign to raise $150,000 has so far accumulated $56,000, easily surpassing its target of raising the first $30,000 by Feb. 20.  A benefit concert with superb Roots talents was also held last week but there hasn’t yet been any indication as to how much was raised.)

Lee, who was once described by Eric Clapton as “the greatest guitarist in the world” and by Earl Scruggs as “a genuine guitar wizard,” is a Grammy winner known for his unique style of fingerpicking who also performed for many years with seminal early Pop act The Everly Brothers, whom he helped to reunite, and is practically worshipped by County songwriter Emmylou Harris.

The British legend has appeared in TO before, doing shows last summer accompanying another famed early Pop star, Peter Asher of Peter & Gordon for appearances at Hugh’s Room.

With Hugh’s closed, at least for now, Lee will be doing the two nights instead at a bar well known for its young Country acts, Dakota Tavern at 249 Ossington Avenue.  Both shows take place from 7-9 p.m. and the cover ranges from $35 - $49.
