Memorial for Colin McAllister with all-star lineup tonight | TorontoMoon.ca 170913We | Shows for Wed. Sept. 13, 2017

Memorial plate for Colin McAllister for Rockpile prepared by James Alcock.

\ ETOBICOKE \

He was a local Rock scene superfan who had fans of his own.  But his fans just happen to have been an A-list of local musicians whose shows he supported and promoted for years and who became his friends and staunch admirers.

Colin McAllister -Bill Reid Photography, posted on FB by Rickferd Van Dyk

It was our sad duty a couple of weeks ago to report on the passing August 31 of Colin McAllister at just 54 years of age from a heart attack in his sleep.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll superfan, photographer and inspirational supporter will be remembered tonight starting at 6 p.m. (doors at 5) in the room that was pretty much his home away from home: The Rockpile at 5555 Dundas St. West in Etobicoke.

With host Al Reilly and his Catalyst band as house unit, a parade of superb Rock acts will take to the club’s big stage to pay tribute to Colin and raise some bucks to go to his dad to cover funeral expenses. [See lineup below].  Cover has not been specified but I assume a minimum donation of $10 would be expected (with more encouraged) plus there will be raffles, etc. for donated prizes.

The Rockpile was so much Colin’s hang-out that a memorial plate (prepared by singer James Alcock) has been installed on the chair at the end of the bar in which he used to sit.  No doubt tonight it will be occupied by photos and other memorabilia evoking his memory.

But although he was based in Etobicoke, McAllister also travelled to Scarborough, Durham and beyond to support the acts he loved and was loved by in return.  So in addition to artists associated with the west end like Susie Grooves and James Green Electric, the bill also includes Scarborough’s Tommy Rocker Band and Jenn Lady Evil with her Strictly Sabbath group, along with others from farther afield such as Russ Dwarf from Killer Dwarfs and Alcock’s Rock Gods.

While Colin may forevermore now be absent from the shows he used to attend almost religiously week in and week out for years, he will live on in the memory of those whose talents he so selflessly supported.

He will also be included in the Builders section of TorontoMoon.ca’s forthcoming Musical Legacies Online Museum once the musical community sees fit to support the project to enable its launch.

Here’s the lineup, as of early September 13, posted for tonight’s show:
