Memorial for Glenn will raise dough for Distress Centre TorontoMoon.ca 170301We | Shows for Wed. March 01, 2022

\ TO WEST \

I didn’t know Rockabilly drummer Glenn Kimberley well, but what I did know of him was thoroughly positive.  I first met “Bunny” as some close friends used to call him, back in the early 90s when he was anchoring Steve Fox’s Country-Rock outfits The Tin Eddies and later Tequila Mockingbirds.

I probably hadn’t seen Glenn in six or so years before his way too untimely death in early March two years ago by his own hand, for reasons that remain as mysterious as they are frustrating to those with whom he was close.

Those friends include a legion of local TO musicians, as he was the skins beater on various occasions for several high-profile groups like The Swingin’ Blackjacks, Sin City Boys, The Millwinders and The Kat Kings, to name just a few.

Tonight those groups and other high-profile artists like guitarist Tim Bovaconti and bass master Gary Kendall will gather at Cadillac Lounge to remember their departed comrade and to raise dough for the Toronto Distress Centre, an organization that helps people in crisis and those who have lost people to suicide.

Matt Allen, guitarist for the Blackjacks for whom Glenn often played as a sub drummer and a close friend and day job colleague, remembers that “while Glenn seemed to be a well balanced, happy individual most of the time, he had been suffering from severe depression for many years,” he told me.

“It’s still difficult to deal with even a couple years on,” he added.

A memorial show just after Glenn’s death two years ago at Cadillac, located at 1296 Queen St. West near Dufferin, packed the house.  The hope is that tonight’s show, for which suggested donation is $10, will do the same and make a difference towards helping to ensure that the toll of mental health-related deaths is reduced, even if just a little.
