Veteran R&B/Blues and Rock guitarist and singer Roy Buna passed away of natural causes at age 63 on Friday, April 24 at his GTA home, his family announced today.

Buna, who had a long career as a journeyman player teamed up with acts such as the late Buddy “Bear” Armstrong and the James Anthony Band among many others, was also notable for his matinee idol good looks enhanced by his jet black 50s-60s style pompadour hair. His winning smile and obvious delight in playing made him a magnet for the ladies in the audience and his professionalism and skill kept him popular among his fellow musicians.

He had three daughters with lifelong friend Carol Bowman: Connie, Jacklyn and Angela, and was proud “Nonno” to grandchildren Harper and Maelle. He also leaves a brother, Mario, and sisters Pina and Franca.

Visitation will be at Turner and Porter Funeral Home, 2357 Bloor St. West in Etobicoke on Tuesday, April 28, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 3914 Bloor St West in Etobicoke on Wednesday April 29 at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Regent Park School of Music -Visit www.rpmusic.org

Roy will also be included in the forthcoming Musical Legacies Online Museum honouring departed musicians of the GTA once sufficient support has been received from the music community to enable it to launch. It can be expected that more photos and details about his life will be included there. -Gary 17
