Seminal Little Caesar and The Consuls featured at The Brawley for Sun. June 23 matinée show 5-9

Whether or not iconic guitarist Robbie Robertson is part of the current incarnation of near-legendary seminal TO band Little Caesar and The Consuls, you can bet that the group will have a full dance floor of Boomers peppered by younger folks who get the 60s music dancing in a frenzy when they do a 5-9 matinée show at newly opened The Brawley in Etobicoke Sun. June 23.

Robertson, ranked 59th among the 100 greatest guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone magazine, was only in the group for a year or two when it first formed in the mid 50s (before meeting Ronnie Hawkins and moving on to be part of The Band) but if he’s anywhere near the city don’t bet against him coming out for the show in the club 1184 Queensway a little east of Kipling.

The group’s biggest hits were “Runaway” in 1958 and “Hang On Sloopy” in 1965, which generated a phrase that is still part of the Boomer lexicon today. (If you really liked it a lot you can listen to it in endless loop on their www.littlecaesarmusic.com website.)

The group has played this room before, when it was Hollywood On The Queensway —which, after briefly co-owning it a decade ago, Phil Policelli recently reclaimed and rechristened. Cover is just $8 for a show that should be a lot more fun and memorable than most nostalgic concert outings.
