Steve York’s Indie Tuesdays celebrating first year anniversary tonight

\ TORONTO WEST \

A man who seems to have a magic touch when it comes to putting together successful showcases involving a variety of indie acts, Steve York is pumped about celebrating the first year of his twice-monthly Indie Tuesdays series at original music-friendly club The Piston tonight.

The series, also known as Two-Four Tuesdays (it’s held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month) appears to be headed for the same kind of success as the long-running Freefall Sundays open stage York co-hosts at Supermarket in Kensington Market.

For the events at The Piston (937 Bloor St. W., a little west of Ossington near the Long & McQuade headquarters), York also has his own Mercy Flight band on hand to do one of the sets, with guest artists also showcasing a set each.

Tonight’s special guests at the pay-what-you-can bash, which gets underway at 9 p.m., are Ben Hermann and Tofu Stravinsky, neither of whom I’m familiar with.  But I’d expect some stage cameos from various other artists who’ve been part of the first year of showcases for this special edition.
