Doc prescribes himself for today’s dose of Folk

>>> With the nicer weather finally starting to become the norm (although watch out for Monday night through Wednesday —it’s gonna get colder and may snow again!) Toronto Moon will be increasing the number of out-of-city shows included in the daily show listings. We have readers and subscribers all over the province and people do start to travel once the roads are clear.

Speaking of travel, it should be a pretty decent afternoon for a drive out of town today and if you’re so inclined and enjoy open stages, you might want head north to Barrie. Every Sunday (except for holidays like Easter next week) social activist/songwriter Doc Higgins hosts an open stage in the basement studio/performance at his home on Wallace Drive. Participants and audience can bring their own refreshments and the stage is wide open, though if you’re planning to sing a lament about the passing of James Flaherty you might want to consider another destination. There’s also a weekly feature, usually a Simcoe County local but sometimes drawn from TO or elsewhere. Today the Doc prescribes himself and advises that after next week he has several availabilities for artists who want to be in the spotlight. Not only will you shine before an audience of Barrieians (I don’t know what else you’d call residents of that city) but the entire show is also broadcast live on the internet at http://justin.tv/openfolk. -Gary 17, www.torontomoon.ca
