Such hip young men wearing ugly sweaters! -from FAILTE poster Dec. 22, 2017

It should hardly come as news —though I haven’t really seen it written about anywhere else yet— that “ugly Christmas sweaters” are all the new fashion rage.

Good luck trying to find one in a second-hand store this year.  For there’s been a sudden mushrooming plethora of Ugly Christmas Sweater parties appear out of nowhere this festive season —including at least 40 such events happening in the GTA tonight alone, as encountered on Facebook’s events pages!

(We’ve only listed them when they’re accompanied by live music performances —the vast majority employ djs or piped in house music in bars that normally don’t have real live entertainment anyways and those, mercifully, are not included in today’s listings.)

Fashion has always loved irony, so you can expect that anyone receiving a hand-knitted pullover under the tree this year will certainly not be scoffing —they’ll more likely be wearing it to their next hip social engagement, unless they decide to sell it on e-bay first!

At one such event, they’ve actually taken the ugly sweater trend to its quintessential level by discarding the “Christmas” element altogether!  Failte Irish Pub at 201 City Center Drive in downtown Mississauga is simply holding an “Ugly Sweater Party” and the models for the poster pretty much sum up where such garb now stands in the realm of apparel —at the cutting edge!

Whatever events you’re going to tonight enjoy them thoroughly.  But please do take extra care on slippery roads and keep your mind able to be alert and focused while in transit.
