\ TO DOWNTOWN \

As noted in previous articles, acoustic Pop/Roots duo Mark Yan and Barry Mulcahy of Brampton are getting more and more busy in recent months and May continues that trend.

Tonight they appear as the feature attraction at Fat Albert’s open stage, which takes place every Wed. in the Steelworkers Hall at 25 Cecil St. off Spadina, south of College Street.  For this gig, where songwriters comprise most of the audience, the pair can be expected to concentrate on presenting original tunes. The open stage sign up starts at 7 p.m. with participants (except the 9 p.m. feature act) doing two tunes each and cover is a tiny donation to help keep the non-profit event happening.

In addition to their originals Yan & Mulcahy (maybe it’s time these two come up with an actual name for their act!) does a fine job of covering a wide range of acoustic Pop hits that span the ages, delivering faultless guitar work and exceptional vocal harmonies together —which will be on display during another four shows through the month.

Three of their upcoming gigs are in the Orangeville area: at Black Wolf Smokehouse on Fri. May 20 in downtown Orangeville proper; on Sat. May 28 at Edge Wine Bar a little to the west of the town in the village of Laurel; and on Sat. May 21 at Ray’s 3rd Generation Bistro in the nearby burg of Alton —where they’ve become a staple attraction over the past couple of years.

On Friday, May 27 they’re back in TO, showcasing at Black Swan Tavern, where they’ve also become regular features over the past fifteen months since making a debut appearance there for the Winterfolk Festival in 2015.
