Perfect weather and great musical lineup portend super TOD weekend

\TORONTO EAST\

You couldn’t ask for much better weather for an outdoor street festival than what’s forecast over the next few days as the 21st Krinos Taste Of The Danforth event kicks off tonight.

Sebastian Agnello & Peter Verity -Gary 17

With three free stages featuring live entertainment (anchored by the Showcase Stage a little east of Broadview Ave.) the extravaganza of food, music, carnival attractions, family activities, socializing, charity and other special events (including two world-record setting attempts) runs tonight through Sunday evening.

As usual, Danforth Ave. between Broadview and Jones Ave. is closed off to vehicular traffic as thousands of people amble along the thoroughfare to sample the cuisine and other aspects of Greek culture –as well as those of many others now represented in the increasingly cosmopolitan area.

Musical highlights on the Showcase stage include Elana Hart (who hosts the weekly M Factor Mondays at Old Nick adjacent to the stage) tonight at 7:45; Hey Lucy (which appears most Fridays downstairs at Black Swan on the north side of the street) at 8:15 Saturday; and the Julian Taylor Band (fronted by the host of the Monday open stage at Dora Keogh and a hot, hip songwriter with a new album just released) Saturday at 9:30 and to close the weekend with a 6:45 p.m. set Sunday; and Sebastian Agnello and Peter Verity teamed up as a duo (the two iconic songwriters and longtime pals each have a Monday and Tuesday night residency respectively at the Swan) for a set at noon on Sunday.

A grab-bag of performers also appears on the Celebrity Stage plus, don’t neglect the Astro Original Greek Yogurt Stage (what a stupid name!) that features Greek performers who may not only delight you but also open your eyes about the variety of styles this sub-genre has to offer these days.

For full schedules and other details visit the event’s website. Or, just get to the area via the TTC, dive right in to the stream of bodies undulating along the street and have yourself a wonderful time!
