Al Reilly & Earl Johnson in acoustic mode in 2015 -Gary 17

Since many clubs have a nasty habit of cancelling live music shows (often at the last minute or without bothering to post anything on their social media or websites) it’s always a bit gamble attending regularly scheduled open mics, jams and residency shows on a holiday Monday —and no holiday Monday is more prone to that than Labour Day.

Some shows we know aren’t happening, such as the open mic at Dora Keogh and the M-Factor Mondays showcase at Old Nick.  And we’ve made every effort to confirm others via clubs’ websites and social media.  But in the case of some shows where we couldn’t confirm they are happening, their listings have a question mark preceding them, indicating that while they’re expected to be happening it would be wise to call ahead to confirm first.

While club phone numbers aren’t included in our listings, paid-up subscribers who are registered as members of the website can find many of the numbers on our handy Venues Directory, which was updated just last week.  (If you’re a subscriber who isn’t registered yet, see the Membership tab on the site to apply and I’ll approve you as soon as I get notification.  Being a member of the website also gives you full access to the Vault and a few other features that are blocked from non-subscriber visitors.)

One Monday jam that has occasionally been cancelled at the last minute (or at least only announced that way) but that we know for sure is happening tonight is the Rock/Blues jam hosted by Al Reilly and Catalyst at The Rockpile in Etobicoke.  Not only is that one still on, starting at 8 p.m. as usual, it features a special guest of some repute:  MOXY guitarist Earl Johnson, who still has all the chops that helped to make that band so impressive that it still has a rabid following several decades after hitting its peak.  A great way to wrap up the long weekend and get yourself steeled for the autumn season ahead.
