\ TO CENTRAL \
I don’t know what is the matter with the people who run Music City North but as far as I’m concerned musicians who believe they are getting “exposure” from playing at their events are deluding themselves.
I sure hope the participating acts are being paid for taking part in what appears to be another 3-night multi-venue event they are putting on starting tomorrow night, and for which the launch party is tonight at The Hideout. Because the “promotion” being done for this event is a joke in my opinion.
Although I have expressed on many occasions to various people who purport to be “organizers” and “promoters” of the “organization” that I am interested in knowing about their upcoming shows (and while I had politely replied to one recent invite to a media promo event that even though I couldn’t make it out to that show I wanted to be kept in the loop) I have received no press release, social media message or any other communication from them letting me know at which venues this weekend’s event was taking place, let alone what performers are involved. And if tonight’s show or any of the upcoming ones in six downtown rooms have “event pages” on Facebook, they’re certainly well hidden, while this evening’s debut isn’t even included in NOW magazine’s free listings.
(And why, for that matter, would an organization like this, putting on several such events every year plus now a weekly open stage, not want to be subscribed to this publication for a measly $60 per year and have live event links to all of its shows and a residing one to its home website?)
So as far as I’m concerned this organization is bullshit. I only mention it at all because one of our subscribers, Shawn Brady —and a hugely talented one at that, who’s worth seeing under any circumstances— is one of the three acts in the 423 College St. room for tonight’s affair, which starts at 11. No idea if there’s a cover or anything else except that apparently calling this a “festival” is enough to con the authorities into letting the participating venues serve alcohol till 4 a.m., so I suppose it’s doing some good at least.
