It’s been over five years since I last attended one of the Tuesday open stage jams at Axis Gallery & Grill in the Junction part of West Toronto at 3048 Dundas St. W.. Not because I wasn’t enjoying the many visits I made there since it debuted in 2004 —quite the opposite! The club is located pretty far from where I live and getting home on TTC late ain’t easy —and when you go to this event, leaving early just never feels like an option!
The talents attracted by host Derek Downham and regular accompanists like Dave McManus and Poppa K are pretty much all at a stellar level and service in this cozy room is always pleasant and usually pretty attentive. The staff will have to be on their toes to keep up this Tues., however, as the event’s 9th anniversary bash should pack the place!
