Lori Yates -online

\ HAMILTON \

Already an icon in the music industry, if not quite a household name, songwriter Lori Yates is widely regarded as a founder of the genre today called alt-Country/

Combining elements of Country and Rock into a lively and often pointed sound with songs that go beyond “my baby left me” subject matter, Yates at one time came tantalizingly close to international stardom and is still highly respected by fellow musicians and critics and continues to thrill audiences wherever she performs.

As is not uncommon for a maturing diva, she has also expanded her repertoire to include elements of Blues and Jazz as expressed through the Pop idiom.  So naturally she feels a huge affinity for the late Patsy Cline, a Country singer who became a Pop superstar and whose material still sounds as fresh and compelling as it was when she died in an airplane crash 55 years ago.

Tonight Yates once again tips her hat to the legend at one of the primo clubs in Hamilton, where she’s resided for the past many years now, by staging the second annual “Walking After Midnight tribute to the seminal Country Hall of Fame singer.

With her own Nashville Rejects band (Stephen Miller, Pete Sisk, Ted Hawkins) joined by guest pianist Bruce Tournay serving as the house orchestra, the event will feature, in addition to host Yates, a dozen of Ontario’s most talented Country/Jazz/Blues singers doing songs much cherished and obscure from the late legend’s repertoire.

The lineup includes Piper Hayes, Shari Dunn, Laura Hubert and Gillian Nicola to name just a few of the twelve featured guests.

It takes place at The Casbah, 306 King Street West in The Hammer, starting at 9 p.m. and cover is $25.
