Final few nights at Harp dominated by Tom Barlow

/PORT CREDIT/

Versatile and constantly reinventing himself, Pop Rock covers artist, jam host and indie songwriter Tom Barlow [aka Barlow, aka Twig] has been a big part of the success of Port Credit eatery and music pub the Harp at 55 Lakeshore Road. E. a little east of the marina.

He’s been there every Monday for several years co-hosting a jam with John Bride (except when he’s touring the world with the latest incarnation of his self-led band taking music to remote communities such as Greenland villages, or, as he was doing earlier this month, recording an album in Costa Rica) and his band normally plays at least one Fri.-Sat. weekend show per month, sometimes more.

So it’s fitting that as the final weekend of the club’s operation gets underway tonight (it closes after his finale jam show Monday, June 2) it’d be Barlow’s band that performs both tonight and tomorrow.

Sunday at the club will be the final Nomads show and while I don’t know who their special guest is (they usually don’t bother to release that information until the day of, for some reason known only to band leader Tony Paglia) it wouldn’t surprise me if Barlow is also on hand for that –if not as the formal guest then as one of what is likely to be a legion of talents who’ll sit in with the group for this event.

Harp may be closing, after 26 years of pretty much unqualified success, but owner Maureen O’Neill isn’t leaving the business –she’s also got another nearby location, Shore Grill, to which she’ll be relocating some of her staff and hopefully some of the entertainment.
