Festive season’s over but parties abound

With the passing of the “Twelfth Day of Christmas” on the epiphany, January 6, the holiday/festive season is officially over.  But the parties will be going hearty in three rooms in the west end this afternoon and early evening as no-cover birthday and anniversary shows take place.

Troubadour Bill Heffernan will be hosting a parade of superstar talents from the Roots, Country, Blues and Celtic genres as he celebrates the tenth anniversary of hosting a weekly 5-8 show at Gate 403 on Roncesvalles Ave., which today starts an hour early to accommodate the huge special guest roster. He’ll have his own Homeland Security Road House Band on hand for a set and also promises performances by Glen Hornblast, Julian Fauth, October Browne, Dave McManus, Shelley Coopersmith, Michael O’Grady and several more. It’s a small room at 403 Roncesvalles and he’s hugely popular, so you’ll need to get there way before the start time to have any hope of a seat.

Out in east Etobicoke, meanwhile, venerable veteran Jazz/Blues crooner and raconteur/comedian Danny B returns from a mini-vacation from his weekly Saturday showcase at Blue Goose on its own Blue Goose Rd. off Royal York and celebrates his birthday to boot. His talented backing band that includes versatile Boogey-Woogey keysman Michael Keys, has built a loyal following among patrons at the old-school style room and it’s sure to be a good turnout today.

Further west in Etobicoke, Joe Reynolds and his eclectic group of troupers in The Meteors celebrate the 11th anniversary of hosting a weekly 5-8 Saturday jam at Timothy’s Pub on Brown’s Line. Tonight the show will run way past its normal end time and morph into the evening show.  A parade of stellar west-GTA talents can be expected to attend and get up to perform as part of the merriment.
