\ ETOBICOKE \

Perhaps like many people you’ve been finding it hard to get back into the regular groove of things after the holiday season of special events, family get-togethers and wonky weekend schedules with both this past Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve happening on Saturday nights.

Maybe you’re missing all the special parties too and looking ahead at the rest of winter stretching forward and thinking, “arghh, how do I get through this?”

So maybe what you need is a good ol’ fashioned blowout party to clear the cobwebs and get you back into sync, in which case you couldn’t do much better than to check out the “Space Oddity” birthday party for Southside Johnny’s owner John Theodore tonight in Etobicoke.

No, it’s not a David Bowie tribute, although the band that’s performing, Cameltoe, certainly can do very convincing renditions of many hit tunes by the late man-who-fell-to-earth as well as a broad range of contemporary and classic Rock and Pop hits spanning a lot of eras. SSJ Space Oddity bday Jan 13 '17

The bar at 3653 Lake Shore Blvd. W. near Brown’s Line will be decked out with spacey décor, however —John tells me the idea for this year’s theme (last year’s, for his 60th, was “it’s just a number”) arose from the fact that the party happens on the thirteenth day of the first month of a year ending in an odd number and he’s turning an “odd age.”  Of course, the numerals are also all PRIME numbers (they can’t be divided by any whole number except themselves and 1) so you may consider this a prime night to get your jams out too.

Certainly the band will much enable you to get you limber on the dance floor and keep you spellbound with their awesome musical prowess. As I told you last summer, I caught the group, which includes Adam Berry and Steve Aucoin on guitars and Stan Miczek on bass, for John’s birthday show a year ago this time and I was bedazzled by how the group that had started out as a casual little throw-together outfit back in 2001 had evolved into masters of keeping a crowd enthralled.

With Johnny no doubt likely to be in a beaming mood and the bar packed with regulars and a great band, this no-cover event might be just the tonic to pick you up and get you ready to cruise through the rest of January.
