Open stagers used to performing Monday nights at McGradie’s Tap & Grill on Victoria Park Ave. at Ellesmere will have to find a new location to ply their talent tonight and for the foreseeable future, as the room has been shuttered at least since the middle of last week.

Rumours and postings on the bar’s Facebook group suggested at one point that the owner had been locked out by the landlord for rental arrears but others said no padlock or bailiff’s notice had been seen and that it could be something planned for some time.

The first public inkling of the closure came in a post on the bar’s Facebook group on May 18, when a patron wondered why the room had “been closed for the past several days.”  A band scheduled to perform that night apparently had been given no notice although one patron posted that the owner had told her some time beforehand.

The same poster also shared a screenshot of an undated real estate listing suggesting the business is for sale.  The asking price for the pub, at which two shootings took place last summer and which is described as having “Excellent Clientele,” is $250,000.
