High Court County -JOANNE CLAYTON

\ OSHAWA \

We told you not so long ago about the rising profile of Country/Southern Rock band High Court County as they’ve expanded their horizons across the GTA to perform in rooms both traditionally associated with Country Rock and others more straight-ahead Rock oriented.

Being versatile enough to cover both Country classics and Southern Rock dancing tunes has earned them repeat gigs in all of the rooms they’ve appeared at in communities ranging from all parts of TO and rooms in Aurora, Brampton, Newmarket and Barrie, among others.

As I told you in writing about their two eps of original material, this group, based around the vocals of frontman Stephen Court and the sizzling guitar solos and fills of Arie Papernick, is hugely versatile and in live performance also highly entertaining and diverse.

In addition to their radio-friendly originals (which are getting airplay on New Country stations) they also deliver lively covers of traditional faves like Johnny Cash as well as modern acts like Keith Urban and Dwight Yoakam.

This evening they hit another landmark in their evolution as they’re making a one-night debut at signature Country Rock palace The Corral at 433 Simcoe Street in Oshawa, around 9 p.m.  Not only are they the feature for the club’s weekly Ladies Night but they’re also hosting a Devil’s Night Hallowe’en costume party, which could get interesting since their performances should certainly be capable of bringing out the devil in some of the ladies!

They have another debut coming up next month that I’m aware of, as they’ll venture into Etobicoke to showcase at the area’s primo Rock ‘n’ Roll bar, Southside Johnny’s on Friday November 30.
