Salty Dog closing will bring tears to many musical eyes | TorontoMoon.ca 200303Tu | Shows for Tuesday, March 03, 2022

Salty Dog -PROFILE PIC

\ TO EAST \

Tuesday nights will be a lot less appealing to people in the Beaches area of east TO with the closing of a long-standing popular room that offered live music on a regular basis.

The Salty Dog at 1980 Queen St. E. was featuring drummer Greg Pilo and all-star musical guests doing traditional Jazz every Tuesday for a long time and also had a regular Friday Blues jam night as well as occasional weekend show bands and matinees by musicians in a variety of genres.

The owners announced they would be closing on March 2, after 11 years of operation, in a Facebook post just a week ago, but no reasons were cited.  The shuttering comes shortly after another abrupt departure from the scene as the short-lived and controversial Big Bruce/The Cut room at 1963 Queen St. E., which featured several nights of live music weekly, was locked out of its premises by its landlord in mid-February.

Mike Sedgewick, who hosted the Friday night jam at the Dog, said in a post on its Facebook group that he expects to be continuing that event elsewhere but so far no news as to whether Pilo et al can find another Tuesday home.
