/// I have never met and had never heard of young Nikki Lemonbeat until a couple of nights ago when a new subscriber to the magazine, who happens to be doing an afternoon show today, told me that this intriguing second-generation musical talent would be bringing her combo in to do a set as part of what he’ll have on offer for those not otherwise engaged with holiday activities.

[Speaking of people being otherwise engaged in holiday pursuits, please note that several shows that usually happen regularly on Sundays, particularly during the afternoon, will not be going on today due to the Easter holiday. In today’s show listings I’ve followed the old journalistic dictum: “when in doubt leave it out!” but it’s a good idea to call ahead to ensure that even shows that are listed are still actually on.]

But back to Lemonbeat: this inventive and seemingly quite energetic young ukelele player and songwriter is the daughter of Carpet Frogs singer Nick Sinopoli and happens to know the feature act for today’s 5-8 show at Gate 403 on Roncesvalles Ave. because he and Nick are neighbours up in Brampton. Mark Yan and his duo partner, Barry Mulcahy, are the headline act and Mark figured it was a natural fit to bring in Nikki for some tunes since she now lives in the area near the club —and in fact, it turns out, hosts a fairly longstanding Tuesday night open mic nearby at a place called Kitch on Geary Avenue.  So she’s quite likely to be able to bring in a few of her friends to check this gig out.  Not to mention that quite possibly, today being a family sort of day, perhaps her parents will come by and make it an Easter dinner outing (I’m told the food here is totally edible) if they don’t have other commitments.  -Gary 17, www.torontomoon.ca
