East GTA musicians have plenty of jam choices on Sundays

\SCARBOROUGH-PICKERING\

Sunday jams first started up back in the days when most licensed premises would close on Sundays, leaving most musicians with a day off, so players would gather at one another’s homes or community spaces and mess around with new songs, try out new combinations and catch up on what each other were up to. All of that still happens at jams, of course, but these days they take place in bars where there’s also expected to be an entertainment value provided to other customers.

While Sunday jams aren’t as proliferous as they once were (when many bars had started opening but would close early on Sunday nights) but in the east GTA area, in Scarborough and Pickering there are at least four happening at the moment.

Three of the events are afternoon-early evening affairs, beginning with a 3-7 Rock jam hosted by Tommy Rocker’s Classic Rock Show at Centro Pizza at 3406 Kingston Road just west of Markham Rd. Starting an hour later is a new one just started up by Mike Murphy and taking place at The Brigadoon at the corner of Victoria Park Ave. and St. Clair Ave.

Out in Pickering Andy Narsingh and his Juggernaut Jam Band host a 5-9 affair in at the West Shore Bar & Grill at 877 Bayly St. east of White’s Road and just just west of West Shore Blvd. Finally, starting at 7 and running till 11 p.m. back in Scarborough, Dan Walek and his band host a long-running affair at McGradie’s Pub at Victoria Park Ave. and Ellesmere Rd.
