BackTrack promo shot for Jazz Festival

\ TO EAST \

The Beaches Jazz Festival wraps a month’s worth of weekend shows today in east Toronto with free concerts at Woodbine Park and also at Kew Gardens bandshell in the heart of the Beaches at 2075 Queen St. E.

The Kew Gardens shows look particularly interesting and may intrigue readers who have seen some of our previous articles about Motown/Soul big band BackTrack Band featuring Marty Zatzman on guitar and three or four female sax players among its ensemble.

We most recently wrote about them in connection with their ongoing series of weekly summer shows at Cadillac Lounge before it closed earlier this month.

The group has also been a favourite at festivals for many years and kicks off today’s two-acts show in the sprawling park with a noon-1:45 p.m. set followed by the Joe Bowden Sextet doing Swing Jazz till 5.
