Closing of Cadillac Lounge will cut BackTrack short | TorontoMoon.ca 190603Mo | Shows for Monday, June 03, 2022

5 members of BackTrack on stage in 2017 -GARY 17

\ TO WEST \

The new Monday night Motown/Soul-Rock jam being hosted by the BackTrack big band at Cadillac Lounge won’t be running all summer after all.

We told last week you about the new 7:30-9:30 Monday nights “Backstage with BackTrack” event for its kick off night, but since then the group’s guitarist, Marty Zatzman, has informed us that “Sam has sold the place and it closes on July 14” and that the band’s series will end after its fourth installment on June 17.

It’s not the first time Sam Grosso has announced the sale and possible closure of the room at 1296 Queen St. West in Parkdale of course.  In fact it was just 13 months ago that we reported on BackTrack being part of a finale show there when a previous sale had supposedly been confirmed.  Although for a while it seemed there was indeed a new owner in place, at some point the deal must have fallen through since it wasn’t long before Grosso was back booking bands and behind the bar as if the whole fiasco had never happened.

It would be nice to think this will again be another “fake purchase.”  But if this time it’s actually a done deal that still leaves you a chance to join in the fun tonight and the next couple of weeks.

Jammers are welcomed up for the first set with the 9 or 10-piece backing ensemble that features three female sax players from 7:30 till 8:30 and then the band does an hour-long showcase set starting at 8:30.
