\ TO UPTOWN \

Music and nature make a lovely combination, particularly this time of year, so the idea of hearing a concert in the Plein Air Garden at 345 Balliol Street has a uniquely pleasing appeal.  The fact that today’s installment of the series features accomplished veteran balladeer and songwriter, Kirk Felix, accompanied by fiddle player Tom Gannon Hamilton, should make this early evening event an especial delight.

The concert series is part of the outreach activities put on by the Artists Garden Cooperative group, which operates the venue located in a house at 345 Balliol Street a block south of Davisville Ave. and just east of Yonge Street.  According to the group’s blog, the facility also offers conferencing facilities and various arts curating activities.

Kirk, who lives in Richmond Hill, has Folk credentials that go all the way back to his days as part of the Yorkville scene.  He has an album that he recorded some time ago and recently has been making that available again when he does show appearances.  (You can check out some tracks on his Reverbnation page.)

Although it’s only in the past couple of years that Kirk has been getting active again, recently he’s been appearing fairly regularly at open stages and as a guest and feature at various multi-artist events, including the monthly Vino Rosso series, a Fort McMurray fundraising benefit and a spot at a showcase for “out of towners” put on by Winterfolk impresario Brian Gladstone as well as hosting an edition of the Saturday Yor Magic Mic earlier this year.

Cover for this evening’s 7-9 show is $10 and you can pick up a ticket at the front door.
