Expect Julian Taylor to share new tune “The Ridge” on NAC live stream tonight | TorontoMoon.ca 200410Fr | Online/On Air Shows for Friday, April 10, 2022

Julian Taylor -promo

As he celebrates today’s release of the first and title track from his new solo album of originals, Toronto songwriter Julian Taylor is performing tonight for a National Arts Centre performance on his Facebook page.

I’d expect that the new track, “The Ridge” will be prominent among the numbers he shares with his many fans.  I’m excited to hear it partly because the album of the same name is being promoted as a solo acoustic release, which is a return to his roots for the Rock/Funk/Pop songwriter of acclaim.

Although, as I’ve described before, he’s achieved fame and success as a Rock/Funk act, originally with his Staggered Crossing band and more recently his eponymous Julian Taylor Band, I’ll always remember first seeing him solo tentatively doing his originals in small cubbyhole bars like Mad Monty’s more than twenty years ago when he was starting out and too young to even be in bars legally..

Taylor says in a press release from SPEAKMusic that the new album, being billed as in the Americana genre, is intended to bring some joy to listeners in these troubled times.

“I’d really like the heart of this record and the stories to connect with people. These are letters to members of my family. It’s something that everyone has – family (whether chosen or not) and memories,” Julian says.

The performance takes place starting at 7 and Julian mentions as an aside that for those so inclined, he’s also taking donations through a GoFundMe “Julian Taylor Live Streams Donations” campaign that seeks to raise $1,000 to help make up for gigs lost to the COVID-19 protocols.
