Colin McAllister 1st annual memorial jam trust promo head

Tonight’s Colin McAllister 1st Annual Memorial Trust Concert with 15 bands is the first of what organizers hope will be an annual event dedicated to celebrating the life of Colin McAllister.

As we reported at the time, he was one of the city’s biggest supporters of live Rock music who died far too young at just 54 years old when he passed away in his sleep last August 30.

Certainly he has not been forgotten by many of those whom he touched during his time supporting the TO Rock scene at shows and jams across the GTA.  A Facebook group in his honour receives posts of memories and old photos of Colin in his element —grooving to music, often while enjoying a brew — pretty much every day or more often.

Hosted by singer Al Reilly with his Catalyst band, today’s event starts at 4 p.m. at The Rockpile, 5555 Dundas St. West in Etobicoke near East Mall just east of the #427 Highway.

There will be items for raffle and silent auctions and all proceeds will be going to the Regent Park School of Music which runs programs across the city with fully qualified teachers to allow at risk youth to learn how to play an instrument.

It’s an appropriate way to remember Colin, as he would have been thrilled to know that his life helped in some way to spread the love of music to the next generation and, who knows, perhaps help to enable the next big TO star to emerge.

Some of the items up for raffle and auction include: T-shirts with images of The Doors, Alice Cooper, Allman Brothers, Janice Joplin and Lynyrd Skynyrd; a signed Daryl Sittler jersey; a Wendel Clark jersey (not signed); a baseball board game;  various albums; drum skins; figurines; hardcover Led Zeppelin books; and a Doors DVD.
