Musical Weather looking a little brighter at Toronto City Hall starting today | TorontoMoon.ca 200415Th | Online/On Air Shows for Thursday, April 16, 2022

Tamara Lindeman aka The Weather Station -COLIN MEDLEY

Since 2016 more than 150 local musicians have performed at Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square daily each spring as part of the City Hall Live series to provide paid performance opportunities for lcoal musicians of all genres.

COVID has forced the live outdoor shows to be cancelled for the foreseeable future, of course, but the bureaucrats at city hall are actually earning their keep by coming up with an alternative in taking the series online.

Starting today, the series will run Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m. until the end of June with more than 100 local artists being paid to perform half-hour sets from their homes, live streamed on Facebook.

Today’s debut concert was by Tamara Lindeman, a songwriter and singer who performs under the name The Weather Station. As The Weather Station, she has released four albums and toured extensively across Europe, the US, Canada, and Australia. She has been nominated for a Juno, a Socan Award and the Polaris Prize and garnered praise from Pitchfork, The New Yorker, The Guardian, and The New York Times.

Toronto Mayor John Tory introduces the series in a short video on the City Hall Live Facebook page where the concerts will stream and where you can also find a schedule of upcoming performances.

And Toronto-based musicians can still apply to be considered for City Hall Live and other City of Toronto Music Office programs at https://www.toronto.ca/business-economy/industry-sector-support/music/, the city says.
