Laura Hubert with Peter Hill at 2012 show at Intersteer -GARY 17

\ TO WEST \

After a couple of months off from what was a weekly 8-11 Tuesday residencey at Intersteer Tavern on Roncesvalles Ave. every Tuesday, Pop Jazz singer Laura Hubert is back with a duo show at least for the month of January.

For these engagements, however, instead of teaming up with a different special guest every week she’s teamed up for all four confirmed dates with guitarist Nathan Hiltz for the no-cover series in the room at 357 Roncesvalles Ave.

The performance area in the Polish themed tavern, at which Laura’s been performing for at least a decade off and on, is tiny and tables are intimately close to the stage area.  The room, which has a long tradition of Saturday matinee shows, has lately stepped up to fill the gap left by the closing of the nearby late great Gate 403 a couple of years ago and now features several nights of live music —including having now given over Saturday afternoons to Bill Heffernan and friends, which was a staple attraction at the Gate for many years.

Although he’ll be in the area, you won’t likely see Laura’s regular piano sidekick and Jazz composer, Peter Hill, dropping in to make a surprise appearance tonight however, unless it’s towards the end of the last set.  He’ll be busy at his own 7:30-10:30 Tuesday duos residency (coming up on four years in April) at La Rev, 2848 Dundas St. West in the Junction, where tonight he’s joined by guitarist Jay Danley.
