Talents heading north and migrating south for summer weekend shows | TorontoMoon.ca 190719Fr | Shows for Friday, July 19, 2021

The Beresfords in 2017 -GARY 17

This time of year a lot of performers find themselves outside the city appearing in various small towns for a variety of local special events such as food truck and beer festivals and so forth.

One such event takes place in Richmond Hill this weekend as a matter of fact, as the Times Square Fest takes over downtown Richmond Hill for a three-day/two-stages showcase of diverse talents booked by local promoter and open mic hosts Steffi Postol Goodfield and Matt Groopie.

But this evening an act from those encircling burbs around TO that most frequently appears in those smaller population centres finds itself on a big stage in the very heart of the Big Smoke.

The Beresfords, a brother-sister combo about which I’ve written before (including for a record release last November here in TO) and had the pleasure of seeing live as a duo in a local east TO bar a couple of years ago, will kick off a three-act indie Country show at the Yonge-Dundas Square starting at 8.

Shannon and Brandon may well opt to have a backing crew with them as they often have when they’ve done other shows in the city at rooms such as Dakota Tavern or Rockin’ Horse Saloon but are quite an entertaining pair even when appearing as an acoustic duo.

They’ll be joined by the Sons of Daughters duo and by the reigning Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase winner, Kris Barclay, for the free show in the square at the corner of Yonge and Dundas Streets.
