Live show to honour McAllister and two others in Etobicoke tonight | TorontoMoon.ca 200802Su | Shows for Sunday, August 02, 2021

Colin McAllister 1st annual memorial jam promo

Assuming that the weather clears up as predicted and a drenching thunderstorm doesn’t wash it out, tonight will see a live band and jammers once again toast the memory of the late Colin McAllister, along with two other departed souls, at Rockpile in Etobicoke.

Al Reilly’s Catalyst will host the 7-11 affair on the club’s huge patio, which kicks off at 7 and runs till 11 or so outside the room at 5555 Dundas St. West in Etobicoke.  [The weather forecast says rain is 50% likely at 7, but by 8 that drops to 14% then down to 10% for the rest of the evening.\

In addition to McAllister, the event will be a Celebration of Life for the late Rosie Harris and Bob Kiss.

The memory of super-fan McAllister is more than a sentimental thing, as we told you last year when Reilly and the crew hosted the Second Annual Memorial Fundraiser concert that, as it had in 2018, raised dough for the Regent Park School of Music.

There hasn’t been any mention of fundraising in connection with tonight’s event but I’m sure any donations patrons want to make to help out the charity group would be gratefully received and faithfully redirected by the host band.

Reilly’s band —which had been hosting a popular Monday jam at the club for a few years now until the COVID pandemic shutdowns in March— will kick off proceedings with a one-hour set, after which the stage will be open to jammers.

Backline equipment will be sanitized between performances and singers are encouraged to bring their own mic and the patio is large enough that social distancing shouldn’t be a problem.

Just make sure that when the bands hit their stride you don’t give in to the urge to start dancing or, if the volume creeps up, engaging in any of that “close talking” that public health officials are so worried about!
