Michael Keys, who says he “plays a little piano” -PROMO

\ BURLINGTON \

I’ve written many times about versatile Boogie Woogie Blues and smooth Jazz/Pop piano player and singer Michael Keys, most recently last month for his Good Friday jam at Black Bull pub in Burlington, and also previously about his induction into the American Heritage organization’s Blues Hall of Fame a couple of years ago.

The personable Burlington-based veteran with a dry wit tells us he likes “to play a little piano” but has also organized and anchored many shows in Halton Region and TO over the years, as well as teaming up on a regular basis in combos with superb talents like Danny B, Mike McKenna and Ronnie Russell among many others.

He tailors shows he organizes or performs at closely to the rooms in which he appears.  He’s equally comfortable getting dancers to rock out in front of the stage as part of a full band or, solo or in duo mode, giving couples enjoying dinner and wine a relaxed Jazz or Pop show to enhance their mood.

People have noticed his diverse skills and contributions to the scene, including the directors of the Hamilton Musicians Guild of Ontario Local 293, of which he has been a member for many years.  And tonight the organization recognizes his long service to the local industry by awarding him a lifetime membership at a 7 p.m. ceremony.  Congratulations for yet another feather in your cap Michael!
