\ ETOBICOKE \

In what could end up being the show of the year if all of the listed guests show up and organizers are able to work out a satisfactory schedule, a veritable pantheon of local Blues, Rock, Country and Pop artists will share the big stage at The Rockpile in Etobicoke tonight to remember the late Hervé Basset.

As we sadly had to report last month, the much loved and uber-versatile keyboardist passed away shortly after being rushed to hospital when on June 27 he collapsed while doing what he loved the most —performing on stage with a variety of players at a jam.

A longtime subscriber/supporter of TorontoMoon.ca, Basset was an enthusiastic performer who was happy to add his zesty but tasty musical presence to a band of pretty much any style or work in the background providing fills for a long list of marquee singer-guitarists with whom he teamed up over the past few decades on the TO scene.  He also functioned as a steadying, calming influence for many artists, serving as a mentor for some, coach for others and cheerleader for more than a few.

Tonight’s guest list is a pretty good indication of just how versatile, nearly ubiquitous and much appreciated Hervé was.  In addition to sets by the Forever Man tribute to Eric Clapton which he was actively boosting the past several months and The Blues Tues Gang (fronted by Kat Lovett) and The Highway Stars (featuring Laura Lee Montgomery and Sean Patrick Armstrong), performers who have said they’ll be on hand include: Jerome Godboo (Godboogie); Tony “Wild T” Springer; Shawn Brady (Hervé’s partner in the Brady-Basset duo); Stan Miczek; James Green (of The Blushing Brides and James Green Electric); Guenther Kapelle (Wild T & The Spirit); Dale Harrison (Headstones); Frank Cosentino; Rob Cooper; Lisa Shaughnessy (Shagg); Chris Hawley; Susan O’Quinn; Mike McAvan; Randy Charlton;  & Carla Hartsfield; Mike Hopley (Tequila Rocking Birds); and Josh Gordon of The Blazers).

Remarkably there’s no cover for the show in the good-sized room with a great dance floor at 5555 Dundas St. W., near The East Mall just east of Highway 427.  Action is scheduled to start at 7 and will also include showing of an “on the road” video prepared by singer/guitarist Phil Naro.  There’s also a raffle with prizes including a painting that will be created by Steve Houston as the evening goes on plus a framed photo of Hervé from his final performance, with proceeds going to the Toronto Faculty of Muisc’s kids’ bursaries program in Basset’s name.
