Michael Brennan perfect choice as Graffiti’s 19th anniversary celebration host

/KENSINGTON MARKET/

Of all the hundreds of musicians who’ve performed at tiny, happening little Kensington Market live music watering hole Graffiti’s, I can’t think of anyone more qualified to help it celebrate its 19th anniversary today than East Coast expatriate Roots songwriter Michael Brennan.

As I told you way back in March of 2010 [Moon #026, March 04, 2010, Page 02 for you archival types] he celebrated his tenth anniversary performing a weekly Sunday afternoon show in the club at 170 Baldwin St. back then, so he’s now into his 15th year after hitting 14 a couple of months ago.

As reported in the 2010 story, the leader of the Wayward Angels band likes playing there so much that he actually cut short his trip to the East Coast Country Music Association Awards, for which he was nominated and performed, in order to get back to do his Sunday gig in the room.

I’d expect a ton of special guests for this show and no doubt it will continue on into the evening with whomever is scheduled to perform (unfortunately the club maintains no web presence except a Facebook page that only occasionally posts updates about its live music –a shame for a place that has live acts every night of the week and twice on many days.)

The club’s Facebook page does say they’ll be giving away a “Steamwhistle guitar” which is a guitar with advertising for Steamwhistle Brewery plastered all over it and that currently hangs on the club’s wall as part of some sort of promotional campaign. But whether or not you win the 6-string, there should be a who’s who of Roots/Indie musicians on hand to make this a memorable event.
