Mother’s Day may be over but surely moms deserve more recognition all the year through for all they do. And evidently Glen Hornblast agrees and thinks that moms who also make music (these days there are more and more women pursuing both careers) are particularly worth singling out.

So tonight for his monthly Nashville Bound series show at Free Times Café at 320 College St., it’s a “Salute to Mother’s Day” as three fems doing double-duty are on stage for the 8-12 event.

The roster includes dynamic and delightful lyrical songwriter Lynn Harrison along with Laura Robinson and Meg Tennant.  Cover is $10 or pay what you can.

Nicola Vaughan -Gary 17

Nearby, meanwhile although Nicola Vaughan is not a mother, the versatile songwriting dynamo is also well known these days as an open stage host who is very nurturing towards fellow talents and will no doubt have an enthusiastic brood of them sharing the stage as she runs at 9:30-1 open mic at Grossman’s tonight.

Her very successful weekly open stages at Black Swan (Wednesdays) and Hirut (Sunday afternoon) have turned into quasi family affairs with a loyal and talented group of players who also often end up jamming together on one another’s tunes. No cover for this event in the room at 379 Spadina Ave.
