Michael Brennan

Michael Brennan

\ TO DOWNTOWN \

As we told you a couple of years ago when tiny perfect live music bar Graffiti’s in Kensington Market celebrated 19 years, Country songwriter Michael Brennan has been one of the mainstays of the room practically since its opening.

Today, in fact, Brennan, also known as leader of the Wayward Angels band, celebrates sixteen years of appearing solo every Sunday afternoon in the room at 170 Baldwin Street.

As we outlined six years ago in an article noting his tenth anniversary of the weekly 4-7 showcase, he takes it seriously, even travelling back from an award show on the east coast in order to do the gig!

In 2010 Brennan had been in Sydney, Nova Scotia to attend the East Coast Country Music Association Awards show —he had been nominated for Country Recording of The Year by Music Nova Scotia for his 2009 album Anywhere But Here, on which ironically he laments the alienation of life in the big city. As we quipped at the time, there actually appears to be nowhere he’d rather be than right in the heart of TO every Sunday!

There’s no cover for the shows (it’s a very small room so arrive well in advance to have any hope of seating) but there is a donation jar and quite likely Brennan will also have copies of one or more of his recorded discs for sale as well.
