Joe Mavety remembered by fellow artists tonight at Monarchs

The Canadian musical community was shocked on September 26 to learn of the passing of songwriter Joe Mavety. A vibrant, talented artist, he passed away while in hospital having “routine” tests performed to try to determine why he had been feeling under the weather.

A diverse and high-profile career that included an extended stint teamed up with Marianne Faithfull will be recalled tonight, Tuesday, November 5, in a memorial/celebration event taking place at Toronto’s Monarchs Pub in the Eaton Chelsea Hotel at 33 Gerrard St. West.

Details about the event are sparse as drummer Jim Casson only really shared its existence outside a small circle of Mavety intimates yesterday afternoon. It appears that those in attendance and, presumably, performing with some sort of house band, will include Robbie Rox, Jack Tasse, Greg Anzelc, Terry Blersch and Johnny Wright. It should start about 8 p.m.
