Mercy Flight -PROMO SHOT

\ TO WEST \

Songwriter and enthusiastic promoter of local indie acts Steve York has been running the weekly Indie Tuesdays at Piston for three-and-a-half years now and has been involved in the weekly Sunday open mic at Supermarket stretching back over eleven years, as we’ve told you in previous articles.

With all that energy expended organizing shows for other artists (he’s also a big booster of songwriter Katey Morley, who has become a staple of local songwriting showcases since releasing her debut double-ep Now/Then back in late 2016 with his assistance) he’s nevertheless still had time to write new songs for his own originals project, Mercy Flight.

In fact the group appears every other Tuesday as one of the three acts on the the bill for the Tuesday indie series at Piston, leading to the band becoming “pretty tight right now” York told canadiantbeats.ca editor & publisher Jenna Melanson recently.

Tonight that culminates in release of a new album of songs in the room, at 937 Bloor St. W. near Ossington, in place of the usual Tuesday indie showcase —though I wouldn’t be surprised to see an opening act (Hi Katey!) or follower also take the stage at some point.

The Flight takes off at 9 p.m. and there’s a $10 cover, with the 10-song album Humanizer (you can check out the video for one track on the canadianbeats.ca interview page) available in cd, vinyl or download card formats for, I assume, an additional charge.
