Katey Morley -Gary 17

Katey Morley -Gary 17

\ Who’da thunk that a sweet looking young lady playing an autoharp would actually turn out to be a Cupid-hater?! Well, it appears that Katey Morley, who does after all look a little distressed in the accompanying photo, is a paid-up member of the Anti-Valentines Day League.  And if not, she can pay her dues tonight by singing about broken hearts when she appears as the special guest of Steve York as part of a multi-artist bill at The Central on Markham St. in the Annex for the “Valentines Schmalentines —Down With Cupid” show starting at 9. Ironically, cover is $10 per single —or $15 for a couple! Too bad it’s not pay what ya can —like with sour tears.

James Clark -Gary 17

James Clark -Gary 17

The futility and bitter undertaste of love —including usually sacrosanct love of family and home, not to mention clowns— is always a central component of the tunes you hear at a show by the James Clark Institute.  The eponymous songwriter’s wry rapier-sharp take on the illusions, delusions and outright lies most of us subscribe to when it comes to matters of the heart will be on display when he brings his full indie Pop band, including Chris Bennett on second guitar and harmony vocals, into east TO’s Linsmore Tavern on Danforth Ave. starting at 9. No cover.

Jonny Rock -Gary 17

Jonny Rock -Gary 17

I know nothing about multi-instrumentalist Jonny Rock’s love life or attitudes towards everyone’s favourite heart ailment except I do know one thing he adores and surely can’t live without: playing in kickass Rock bands. He enjoys sitting in as bassist with Tommy Rocker’s Classic Rock Band so much that he travels from Mississauga to the far reaches of east Scarborough every Thursday to be part of the group as it hosts a 9-1 jam @ Centro Pizza on Kingston Road in the West Hill area.
