Will you visit versatile Michael Keith at his Thursday home? | TorontoMoon.ca 151105Th | Shows for Thurs., Nov. 05, 2015

He may look these days like an old-time Blues songwriter but Michael Keith’s repertoire of covers and originals is much more diverse than any one genre. And over the past few months he’s been popping up at various venues across the city and beyond displaying his versatility in various ways.

He’s done guest appearances and gigs in rooms as diverse as Relish in east TO, Tranzac Club and C’est What downtown and Cue Billiards in the west Junction, to name a few, as well as even venturing out to Keswick for the jam at C.J. Barley’s.

But while his schedule seems pretty unpredictable and he does little to promote his shows himself (telling us he believes it makes no difference to the turnout) there’s one place you can consistently find him on Thursday nights and where he does usually have people come out to join him.

Every week for about 15 months now he’s been hosting an 8-11 p.m. open mic at La Revolucion Mexican eatery at 2848 Dundas St. West a short stone’s throw east of the corner at Keele.

The night that photographer Mary Elizabeth Armstrong visited last month he was joined on stage for some impromptu jamming by guitarist Dave Montrose, whom Armstrong tells us is a “spectacularly talented guitar player,” and the night also featured a performance by songwriter Shaemara Rose, who was sharing some of her newly released original tunes.

If you decide to go there, do make a point of letting Keith know that hearing about it in advance helped  to encourage you to attend. Otherwise, what’s the point of me even telling you about shows like this?
