“Marshall Dane is back” enthuses the blurb on the shows listing page of the website for Roc’n Doc’s in Port Credit.  And while it appears to be just a one-off show for tonight only (since the Big In Japan duo that has been featured there the past few months is listed for the subsequent Tuesdays in the month) it’s definitely an event worthy of singling out.

As we’ve written before, about the release of his One Of These Days album in 2014, Dane, an effervescently passionate, talented and “dreamboat” good-looking Country/Pop songwriter, delivers both substance and commercial radio-sound acumen and appeal on his tunes.

The charismatic and affable guitar and piano player was a weekly Tuesday staple at the club for about 15 years until late August of last year, just when he was hitting a career milestone with a series of shows at the Canadian National Exhibition’s Northern Comfort Saloon stage that required the Doc to find a replacement for a couple of weeks.

Come mid-September 2015, however, it had become clear that this was a permanent shift in the club’s roster and Dane has since started popping fairly regularly up as a mid-week attraction not too far away at Timothy Pub in Etobicoke.

The Doc, meanwhile has experimented over the past 13 months with a variety of acts for the Tuesday slot but with not a particularly spectacular result from what I’ve been able to discern.  (Whether or not that has also held true for the latest BIJ duo residency I haven’t heard.)

The club had also tried running its Tuesday and other weeknight shows from 8-12 for a while but has reverted to a later time (9-12) I’ve noticed.  But whether or not tonight’s show is the inkling of another reversion (a test to see if Dane should be brought back in to the Tuesday slot —assuming he’d even want to at this stage of his career) or just a one-time sub show, it’ll still be welcome news for a lot of his longtime fans in the musical burg where the room is located at 105 Lakeshore Rd. East a few blocks from the GO station.
