McNeill & Love of David Love Band in the groove -Gary 17

McNeill & Love of David Love Band in the groove -Gary 17

\ ETOBICOKE \

With 2019 being the fiftieth anniversary of the release of the seminal Abbey Road album by The Beatles, many older people looking back on the great music of the 1960s are feeling thankful today for having grown up during that halcyon era.

Such folks who want to relive some happy memories today will find an appetizing musical feast awaiting them at Timothy’s Pub in Etobicoke, where The David Love Band is putting on its monthly showcase on 1960s Pop Rock dance music from 5-9 p.m. with a thankful theme.

As I’ve written before, this trio has a sound that’s much larger than you’d expect from just three players, with eponymous band leader Love on bass and lead vocals, sizzling six-stringer Darrell McNeill, who also sings, and, new to the unit but no stranger to stages and the Pop Rock Rock genre, John Rankin on the kit.

If you weren’t alive during the wondrous years of the 1960s and have always wondered what it was all about, this group produces authentic-sounding versions of a wide range of hits from the Pop charts of the era that invariably fill the dance floor.

I’m not sure whether or not there’s a cover for these shows in the room at 344 Brown’s Line these days, but if there is it’ll be minimal and you can also expect a pretty appetizing menu at reasonable prices for the holiday weekend.

Following the show you might want to keep the fun going by heading around the corner to Southside Johnny’s at 3653 Lake Short Blvd. West  Rebecca Matiesen and her band host the always entertaining and diverse Sunday jam from about 9:30 till close and there are really good Sunday wings ‘n’ beer specials from a kitchen that makes a visit here worthwhile any time.
