\ MISSISSAUGA \

It’s been over five years since the last time I visited the Mulligan’s pub in west Mississauga (at 2458 Dundas St. West in the Tim Horton’s/Beer Store plaza just east of Winston Churchill Drive) but I doubt the place has changed much since then.

I used to go there when I lived in Mississauga during the late ‘80s and on my last visit in April of 2010 not much had changed since then either, except that live music on Sundays was already on its way to becoming an established destination event.Today, in fact, apparently marks eight years since R&B/Country/Rock singer Kevin Phillips and his house band The Stew started hosting a regular Sunday 5:30-8:30 show there and happily it shows no sign of wearing out its welcome.

Today, in fact, apparently marks eight years since R&B/Country/Rock singer Kevin Phillips and his house band The Stew started hosting a regular Sunday 5:30-8:30 show there and happily it shows no sign of wearing out its welcome.

I’m not sure who Phillips —who had a pretty good band going called It Men a decade ago and was also part of the legendary Melody Ranch for some time— has backing him these days.  But the musical crew when I attended in 2010 was comprised of accomplished, veteran players and I’ll assume, knowing that Phillips has high standards and great connections, that this continues to be the case.

The day I was there several guest artists were on hand, including Dave Girdlestone on guitar and singer Steven Ambrose, both of whom I wouldn’t be surprised to see there today as well.

There’s no cover and it should be quite the party today, so if you’re planning on helping them celebrate get there early if you want to get a seat near the raised stage area against the north wall.
