Signe Miranda -GARY 17

Signe Miranda -GARY 17

\ TO CENTRAL \

As she’s done on several occasions over the past year or so, alt-Pop songwriter and writing coach Signe Miranda is back at Free Times Café tonight for a double-barreled event that includes a song creation workshop from 4:30 till 6:30 followed by her hosting the club’s weekly open stage, for which sign-up starts at 7.

Once again she’ll have fellow composing enabler and veteran songwriter/singer Taylor Abrahamse with her for the “Get Unstuck With Your Songwriting” session, an offshoot of her hugely successful best-selling book “The Song Creation Formula: 7 Easy Steps to Writing Your Song”.  As we’ve mentioned before, the handbook includes interviews with household name songwriters and many useful tips and is at the top of the Amazon charts in its category.

We’ve also been writing for a few years now about Signe’s teaching abilities, which developed as an outgrowth of her work with various artists at her Concrete City Records enterprise and through her involvement as a founder of the now flourishing Music City North organization.

Tonight’s return to the Free Times also coincides with another initiative that Signe’s been working on for a little while now: recording and release of a new album of her catchy, bright and melodious originals, which she performs with her Signe Miranda’s Veranda band.  Bed tracks for four songs have been recorded so far and once the tunes have been full recorded they’ll be released as a series of singles —and so on until the full album, to be known as Heart Wave, is completed, hopefully before spring.

To help make that project happen utilizing the production talent she wants to involve (Greg Godovitz is to produce the fifth single) Miranda has also launched a GoFundMe.com campaign that offers some neat perks for donors, including song dedications, a custom video of a song, a coaching session and many more.

Cover for this afternoon’s songwriting workshop, for which you only need to bring a pen and paper (though you could also bring a guitar, since, as we suggested before, you can maybe write something new at the workshop and try it out on the open stage!) is $15 at the door or $10 if you pre-register.  For the open stage, also in the rear room of the club at 320 College St., and for which a keyboard will be available, there is no cover.
