Signe showcasing results of teaching skills

>>> One of the young musician-promoters I’ve been very impressed with over the years is spunky and talented songwriter Signe Miranda. This go-getter has been involved in promoting other artists as well as her own Signe Miranda’s Veranda band since I first met her at the late great Renaissance Café about ten years ago, when she had her Concrete Records enterprise running and putting on shows in various bars downtown.

Since then she’s helped a lot of budding talent, most famously in recent years through founding the Music City North operation, which stages shows and a couple times a year puts on mini-festivals in  a handful of clubs over a two or three-day span, most recently last month.

But a couple of years ago Signe also opened a new dimension to her activities by putting on a series of various workshop-style sessions designed to educate young talents about the ins and outs of the music business, from promotion through business considerations.  With all her MCN activities I hadnt’ heard much about that the past couple of years, but it turns out she’s just finishing up a course she conducted for songwriters called the Coalition Music Artist Entrepreneur Program and tonight is the end of semester “graduation” party and showcase at The Central on Markham Street off Bloor West next to the old Honest Ed’s. The bill includes five artists and the 9:30 show is free and open to the public. ~Gary 17, www.torontomoon.ca
